Chiarina is proud to present the world premiere of a new piece by Venezuelan American composer Reinaldo Moya. “I Will Dance, and Dance with You,” written especially for Chiarina, is our second commission. (Our first commissioned piece, “The Best Cuisine,” will be featured on our forthcoming album of works by Carlos Simon.) Chiarina audiences may remember our performances of Reinaldo Moya’s literature-inspired “Ghostwritten Variations for Piano Trio” in 2023 and his exciting piece “Polythene Sonata Product” in 2022.
For this new work, Moya takes inspiration from the life of his brother Manuel. He describes this piece as “a celebration of a life through dance, an exploration of the meeting place between laughter and tears.” Moya draws on a myriad of musical styles rooted in dance—from Brazilian choro music to the Venezuelan waltz to the Spanish flamenco.
Please join us for the world premiere of this uplifting new work on Sunday, March 2 at 7:30, with a pre-concert talk by WETA’s John Banther and composer Reinaldo Moya at 7:00.
