Dear friends, supporters, and audience members:
Welcome to Chiarina’s sixth season, Part II! This past year, and the pandemic that defined it, have brought unforeseen challenges to presenting live music—not only in our community, but around the world. Yet this time has also reminded us that music is more vital than ever as a force to unite, challenge, uplift, and inspire. Our season, Illuminations, endeavors to deliver exactly that, shining light on lesser-known composer voices while revisiting old, familiar ones with renewed dynamism and insight. Our three spring concerts showcase the virtuosity and versatility of strings, piano, and harp. They feature seminal works by Schubert and Debussy, the innovative sounds of two living composers, and they cast a spotlight on a prolific female composer from the twentieth century, Germaine Tailleferre, who defied the gender constraints of her time.
In light of continuing restrictions on social gatherings, we’ve chosen this opportunity to present these concerts online, streamed live, with free registration on chiarina.org. Concert duration will not exceed one hour, and we’ll omit intermission. While event registration and viewing are free, we encourage listeners to donate on our website or while registering. Should it become possible to attend concerts in person this spring, we will update our website with details on how to do so.
We look forward to seeing you!
